I returned to work with trepidation...what was I going to write about? Well I did some investigating and came up with a few ideas.
1. There is a Israel China Film Festival going on which I could cover.
2. Write a story on the Hotel Frank boycott that I passed last week.
3. Olympic story
Enough to go on for now. We had an editorial meeting and I was told to GO AHEAD with my ideas, phew. I was also volunteered to cover a teleconference that NAM were hosting on the Supreme Court’s ruling on Arizona’s immigration laws. So with the help of Jonah Most, he was a star intern last year and is back now and again to help, he fall into the ‘talking through his voice box’ category of American accent. We listened to the teleconference and wrote a report on it. Well, he really wrote the report but it was good to see how it’s done. My awful taking down of notes, a random selection of words all running into each other, paled in comparison to his so I will have to step up my game.
This took most of the day, along with helping do some photocopying, so I didn’t get much further with my other stories. The film festival opens tomorrow so I am going to go to that and see what I can find and I’m going to go and talk to the people at the Hotel Frank boycott tonight after work.
Along with the birds there are also mice in the office, one scurries across the floor now and then.
Today is pilates at the cathedral but I rather wimped out walked through and out the other end and decided to wander round in the sun instead. I went down to Hotel Frank but the picketers weren’t there! Further research showed that they do Wed-Sun so I will have to go back tomorrow.
Did some more writing in Starbucks, it is better than the cave and then watched a programme on Queen Victoria and the Empire on a channel called KQED which is the public channel here so interesting things, old films and not too many ads.
